Disposable

Knees ache. Fingers ache. Today I could actually hear my crepitus  echo. And we all know what happened in the Supreme Court. Fuckers. So Mate is pulling me out of my chair because I can't make it without help at the moment, and he says, "This is the last time for the night, right?"

And at that moment my knee gives a giant pop.

And I start to cry.

"I'm useless. I'm so stupid. So stupid. I never should have gotten this fat. If I wasn't this fat my knees wouldn't be crumbling so bad."

"You'e not stupid."

"I'm disposable. Ask the Republicans. I'm too old to be an EZ Bake anymore--absolutely worthless. I have a uterus which satisfies their one requirement for being a woman but it doesn't function, anymore. Women's healthcare is a sin. You could throw me in a trash can but there's not one big enough."

"I'm not throwing you away."

"If we lived in a red state you could just shoot me and let my body fall into the trash truck. It would be fine."

"No. Nobody's getting thrown away."

"Progressives want to--they're great at finding reasons someone isn't good enough to join their club. They throw people away like tissue--there is no other side of the story."

"Well, those are Twitter people. They're like Sicarians (sic) in Guardians of the Galaxy. They're like paper people. In real life you could kick their asses with no knees."

"In real life I couldn't kick their asses when I had knees."

"Well, you've always been a pacifist."

"True. Even when it meant getting my ass kicked."

"And you always got up again."

*sniffles * "I just need more help right now."

"I'll help. I swear I won't throw you away."

*more sniffles* "Even though I'm stupid enough to get fat?"

"Swear."

"Good."

Oh honey, you aren't stupid. We're getting older and stuff stops working. Joints aren't lubed enough (ha!) and crap begins to fall apart. You have to keep on keeping on. Figure out what works for you and then try a new lifestyle...if it's what you want. Much love and hugs!

So sorry you’re feeling so hopeless. It sucks so much when our bodies betray us. People who want to control our bodies suck. It’s so scary that so many powerful people are adamantly anti-choice right now, and that they are so misinformed about how ovulation, fertilization, and prenatal development work. And they don’t care to inform themselves.

As a fellow fat person, I want to remind you that weight is so complicated, and has nothing to do with stupidity (“I’m stupid enough to get fat”). Please be compassionate to yourself.

Remember that you bring so much light and joy to the world, regardless of what color Amy you are at the time. 💜

You are a beautiful, talented woman who is deeply loved by the world. You have Mate and the Spawn. I listen/read your books daily. Titanium is just around so that you can get new knees. I got mine when I was your age kid. 3 months later I was hauling my fat butt around the mountain trails with my 4 moo dogs. Lost about 70 pounds. The weight is never the point, as you yourself told me. It is the love that makes you beautiful. The conservatives are scaring a lot of us. It's my body, my bedroom. Invitation only. The Pendulum of Justice must swing back toward sanity. I don't see any of the 2000s generation putting up with the nonsense. Keep knitting, crocheting and writing your amazing stories and the boys.

Oh, Honey. You are not disposable, you are priceless and precious. Yeah, I know what it's like to have everything in your body betray you at once. And then, once you've adjusted to make allowances for the worn-out parts, your country betrays you and takes away a right to health and self-destiny. But, we have a super-power honey. We can think, usually out-think those who would denigrate, humiliate and attempt to subjugate us to their will. You've successfully raised your kids, you're enfolded in the love of your Mate and your readers, and there are far too many fellas to write about buzzing around in your head for you to throw in the towel. As for the weight, Hell sugar - I'm over 60 and managed to drop almost 80 pounds so far. It can be done, you just have to find what works for you. Janet is right about titanium, and it probably won't be long before the right hip and both knees are replaced. Sooner or later, I'll probably come with a remote!! Hang in there, honey. We're all here for you whether you feel us or not. Gentlest hugs!

LADY! You better bite your tongue! You are invaluable to so many people. Don’t even get me started on how much you mean to me. You are worth more than a stupid decision made by people who don’t believe women deserve equality. You are worth more than your crumbly knees which could be crumbling even if you weighed 105 pounds. It’s called age and it happens to everyone! We are not our wounds. We are the courage it takes to get up and keep fighting, even if we have to ask for help to do so! Now I’m hugging you right now.
